The After School Program runs
Monday – Friday, from 3pm to 5pm
The program serves children in grades 1-6. Registration is required, however we do not accpet enrollment as the program is open to all children and is has a "drop-in" status.
The children meet the LCCP Staff and Volunteers in the Cafeteria to walk to 4 Pleasant Street.
The After School Program is run by our Executive Director, Susan Wakefield; our AmeriCorps members, and 8-10 high school volunteers.
Our program is founded on our "Homework Help" academic support program. Each day the children work on homework with the help of a high school or adult volunteer, spend time in our reading or comupter lab, or play educational games with small groups.
The program also offers a variety of recreational programs:
The Pleasant Street Players Theater group – The children put on a full length theatrical production for the community.
Art Instruction –The children learn a variety of art techniques and use a variety of mediums. They learn quilting, knitting, wreath making, painting with watercolors, drawing, card making and other arts and crafts.
Cultural Awareness – The children “visit” other countries and learn about different cultures through stories, crafts, food, guest speakers and other activities.
Physical Fitness – The children take part in games indoors during poor weather and at the Mill Street Park during pleasant weather.
A healthy snack is provided for the children.
The After School Program is free to all participants.
